14 Weeks

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

How far along? 14 weeks and 2 days.  Just started my second trimester on Sunday!
Weight Gain: 8.8 lbs (Yes, I definitely exceeded the 3-5 weight gain for my first trimester...oh well!)
Maternity clothes? Some maternity shirts and skirts.  The only "regular" bottoms that still fit are the ones with elastic waistbands!
Stretch marks? Hopefully it's still too early for these, but no signs of anything yet.  I have been putting Palmer's Cocoa Butter on my belly nightly just in case, but more to prevent any belly itching!
Sleep: I usually get up about twice a night to go pee.  And just in the past two weeks, I sometimes stop by the pantry once in the middle of the night for a cookie or a little nibble of something!  Probably not a very healthy habit to get into!
Best moment this week: I was very grateful this week when a dear friend sent me her pregnancy blog - complete with weekly bump pictures from start to finish - that was so helpful to really show me that so much of what I am feeling and experiencing (and looking like!) is just normal!  Plus, it gave me the motivation to start this blog for myself (which I completely copied from her!), which I really should do - even if I never share with anyone - since I haven't been keeping a pregnancy journal, I would at least like to get some of these thoughts down to share with baby or to look back on myself months or years from now.  (So thank you Whitney, for the great idea, the warm advice, and for sharing your experiences and pictures with me!)
Have you told family and friends? Yes, the word has been out since I was 8 weeks (though close family knew right away - at 3.5 weeks!).
Miss anything? I sometimes miss a little red wine, but not much.  When football started this past Sunday, I did miss having a beer!
Movement: I don't think so.  I sometimes feel what people describe as first movements (like a weird little gas bubble or being poked gently from inside my stomach), but it always is in an area where I know my uterus cannot be yet.
Food Cravings: Pasta with Trader Joe's organic marinara sauce and lots of shredded Parmesan cheese has tasted delicious.  Watermelon is still probably my favorite healthy snack - I eat either watermelon or cantaloupe daily!
Anything making you queasy or sick: The smell of meat cooking is not very appetizing.  The smell of our dog's food totally grosses me out.  Justin made tuna the other night when I was hungry, and it made me want to vomit (but still none of that at all!).
Have you started to show yet? Yes, I have a definite pregnant look now.  A few people (including my mother and husband, though they are just teasing me!) have commented that I look even more pregnant that I am, or made the "Are you sure it's not twins?" comment - BUT I am grateful to have friends with recent pregnancies who reassure me that I look damn normal.
Gender Prediction: I absolutely think that it is a BOY.  But Justin refuses to speculate!  We will be finding out when given the opportunity though.  My next appointment with the midwife is September 23rd, so I will ask about it then.
Labor signs: Thankfully it is still way too early for this one.
Symptoms: I am still more tired than I was pre-pregnancy.  It's not as bad as it was a few weeks or a month ago, but I still need at least 8 hours or more every night. In the past two weeks, I have noticed that I really need to eat frequently or I start to feel like my blood sugar is low or something - kind of weak and shaky.  So I take lots of snacks to work, and try to eat something small every couple of hours.  I have had "jumpy legs" the past couple of nights - not sure if this is related to pregnancy or not.  Justin will also say that I have been a bit more irritable (and I think he is right on this one - I have had less patience in general the past few weeks!).
Belly button in or out? Still in.
Wedding rings on or off? Still on with room for sure.
Mood: It depends on when you ask!  We have to move by the end of September, and since moving is never fun, and moving while pregnant is even less so - that has been a bit stressful.  And work has been frustrating for many reasons, so I really look forward to any time that is spent away from work, and especially time that's spent not at work AND not packing.  I do miss my mom and my sisters and my friends so often.  I love my husband’s family so much, but it doesn’t make me miss my family and friends any less!
Looking forward to: Going to Nashville for a visit soon – hopefully at the end of October/beginning of November!  My wonderful sister Brandy gave me a Southwest gift card for my birthday, so I will be booking my flights very soon, and I am SO excited!!!  I’m also looking forward to my next appointment with the midwife in less than two weeks – I really want to ask if she will take a look on the ultrasound and see if they can see a penis (or lack thereof) yet!  But I will probably have to wait a bit longer for that, which is okay – all we want and pray for is a healthy baby!
